Consent Co-Lead

Consent is often called the unofficial 11th principle of Burning Man. It reminds us that every interaction, whether touch, photography, conversation, or gifting, must be informed, enthusiastic, and revocable. In this role, you ensure participants are informed to create conscious, safer interactions helping the event remain a space where everyone can feel respected and free.

What you’ll do

As Consent Lead you will work closely with the Welfare team, Dream Camps, Comms Team, and other leads to integrate consent education throughout the event experience. During the event, you guide and support the Consent Angels and help ensure that any consent-related concerns are handled with care and integrity. You can build on existing materials or bring your own creativity to strengthen how we approach consent within our community. In short you will:

• Lead pre-event education by sending consent-focused emails to Dream Camps
• Collaborate with the Welfare and Comms team to create educational posts for socials and newsletters
• Train and support the Consent Angels, preparing them for their volunteer shifts
• Ensure visibility of consent messaging by distributing posters across the event
• Create and hold a Safer Space (last year this was a separate tent), including overseeing the consent violation box. This task is shared with other (Sheeptime) Leads, ensuring you still have plenty of time to enjoy the event
• Train Safer Space volunteers to respond to consent violations
• Compile a post-event consent report
• You will work together with another experienced Consent Lead, so the tasks and responsibilities are shared between you.

Who we’re looking for

• You are compassionate and grounded.
• You are skilled in de-escalation and respectful communication.
• You are experienced or trained in consent practices. You understand the principles of consent facilitation and feel confident educating others.
• You are available for bi-weekly preparation meetings leading up to the event.
• You are willing to be on call during the event to support Consent Angels and Safer Space volunteers when guidance is needed. This task is shared with other (Sheeptime) Leads, ensuring you still have plenty of time to enjoy the event.
