Volunteer Co-Lead

Behind every shared meal, every perfectly placed art piece and every clean toilet there are volunteers making it happen. And behind those volunteers? That could be you! For Where The Sheep Sleep we are looking for 2 Volunteer Leads who can confidently guide and support our volunteers. You act as a connector within the organization, helping volunteers navigate and find their place in our (sometimes chaotic) structure. If you love helping others shine and feel called to support the magic behind the scenes of the Sheep this might be your role! 

What you’ll do

In this role, you help participants find the shifts that suit them best and ensure they have the information and support needed to fulfill their roles successfully. You are mostly active before the event with getting shifts online and filled. Also you will help with onboarding and supporting new leads, sheeptime leads and answer other volunteer questions. In short you will:

• Be a welcoming first point of contact for new leads and volunteers
• Connect volunteers to needed information and resources
• Collaborate with event leads to identify and fill open positions
• Work with our Sign-Up lead to get roles online and filled
• Answer questions by volunteers (on social media and our participation platform)
• Be on call at times during the event to help fill open shifts if needed. This task is shared with other (Sheeptime) Leads, ensuring you still have plenty of time to enjoy the event.
• You will work together with another Volunteer Lead, so the tasks and responsibilities are shared between you.

Who we’re looking for

• A natural connector who thrives on bringing people together
• A confident communicator
• Someone who enjoys supporting others and enabling them to succeed
• Ideally you are familiar with the Sheep and our volunteer structure (or excited to learn it quickly)
• You are available to join bi-weekly Tuesday meetings in the lead-up to the event
• Preferably you can be on-site from Wednesday (before the event) to help everything land smoothly

Why this matters

Volunteers are the heart of Burning Man events, and the Volunteer Lead sets the tone for how supported they feel. Without volunteers there is no burn. And without thoughtful guidance, support, and structure, volunteers cannot fully step into their power. You nurture our culture of participation, ownership, and service.
