Contribute
Whether you are a newbie or a pro, you know that participation is key to a warm community and great events. It’s not only a great way to get to know our community and the Burning Man Principles and events, but it is also the only way we organize things.
Burning Man exists solely because of contributions to and from our community. Whether these contributions are made manifest in funds, labor, artwork, or other forms; they are the fuel that powers our work in the world. If you don’t participate, there will be no event nor community.
Burning Man NL events are organized by a team of volunteers that operate in different departments (Production, Site, Saftey, Hospitality, Facility etc.). Every department has several roles that require both Leads, co-leads, and Sheeptime Leads. These roles are fundamental to the production of our events. They are a fabulous way to get to know our community and can help you hone or learn new skills.
Unsure what role fits you best?
Every role requires a different kind of contribution, depending on your availability, interests, and skills. Within our organisation we have three different types of roles:
Year-round roles for Burning Man Netherlands
These roles involve year-round participation and are not specifically tied to a single event. This includes teams such as our board, the Comms team, the Peoplez team, and various committees. In these roles you help Burning Man Netherlands grow, reach its goals, and remain a strong and healthy organisation for the community.
(Co) Lead roles for events
Leads and Co-leads take responsibility for a specific part of one of our events (Where The Sheep Sleep or Decompression). They start preparations well before the event begins and take part in several meetings with the team. These roles require time and dedication before, during, and after the event, and play an important part in bringing the event to life.
Sheep-time Leads for events
Sheep-time Leads support our Leads during the event so they can also enjoy some free time. As a Sheep-time Lead you take responsibility for a department for a (half) day during the event. You don’t need to be heavily involved before the event; your Lead will make sure you receive all the instructions you need. These roles are a great way to contribute if you have limited time before the event, or if you’d like to explore whether a Lead role might be something for you in the future.
